Dwarf Wood Scorpion
Liocheles australasiae

This is a single unique item. Photos are of actual individual scorpion for sale.

Handle with care: This animal is mildly venomous. Whilst stings generally only cause localised swelling and pain, those allergic to spider and bee venom may have severe reactions.

Liocheles australasiae is also known as the Dwarf Wood Scorpion. This scorpion is a small but very widespread species across South East Asia and Oceania. Naturally, they live under rocks and bark, tolerating wetter conditions than other native scorpions. This species has been observed as one of the few scorpion species that can reproduce parthenogenetically (females can produce all-female young without males), as a result it is very likely to find that most specimens end up being female.

This scorpion was received as an unsexed juvenile Liocheles australasiae that needs to be re-homed. The described adult size of this species is roughly 30mm from mouth to tail tip, please refer to images with 5 cent coin for size.

Tips for Care

  • Prefers temperatures minimum 15C up to 28C.
  • Moist sand/coco fibre mix substrate is recommended. Spray the enclosure to ensure it stays moist.
  • Adults scorpions do not need to feed often, check on them to remove and replace dead/left over crickets/roaches. Juveniles may need to feed more often.
  • This scorpion prefers having a rock or piece of bark to burrow and hide under.
  • Scorpions are not short lived pets- some species can live up to 6 years or more.
  • Do not house this scorpion with other animals or scorpions. There are some reports of this species being kept communally, if well fed and provided with proper space- though we recommend caution.
  • Care is somewhat similar to Liocheles waigiensis.

It is the buyers responsibility to be fully prepared to receive scorpions and care for them to ensure success. If you are unsure or are new to scorpions, there are many resources if you look up this species.

Feel free to contact us if you have questions or concerns. We do not have a care sheet specifically made due to this species not being regular on our store.
